Vallecito woman dies from gunshot wound

Autopsy being conducted
Stacy Fuller Pazell

Vallecito resident Stacy Fuller Pazell died this weekend from a gunshot wound to her head.

La Plata County sheriff's deputies are investigating the death and said an autopsy would be completed Tuesday or Wednesday.

Pazell died either late Monday night or early Tuesday morning, according to Dan Bender, the spokesman for the sheriff's office.

Pazell was found with her husband, David, on Saturday evening near county roads 501 and 502 in a black 2006 Ford Explorer. David Pazell told investigators that his wife had shot herself, and a handgun was found near her. He flagged down another driver, who called 911 to report the shooting.

He told investigators they had been at the Lake House Bar and Grill in Vallecito for a pool tournament.

Stacy Pazell was transported to Mercy Regional Medical Center Saturday night, then St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call sheriff's investigator Brandon Dyer and 382-7054.
