Valles Caldera not the work of Cato

Tom Ribe’s op-ed about the Valles Caldera (Herald, Feb. 15) describes it as a failed example of a Cato Institute privatization policy.

The Valles Caldera Preserve was not an example of privatization, nor was it designed with the help of or is it anything like any proposal made by the Cato Institute.

If I or anyone else at the Cato Institute had designed the preserve, it would have looked a lot different.

I encourage people to read my proposal for reforming public lands in a way that would make land managers responsive to the needs of the public, not to politicians. You can find this proposal at http://tinyurl.com/CatoPA630.
