Garden club holding plant exchange

The Pine River Garden Club will hold a plant exchange from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 17 at the Pine River Library. Plants, seedlings and perennials can be exchanged, or donations accepted for the garden club in exchange for plants. The gardens at the library also are available for the public to view.

FFA mountain oyster and catfish fry, dance

The Ignacio High School chapter of Future Farmers of America will have a Rocky Mountain oyster and catfish fry on Friday, May 16. The event is from 5:30 to 11 p.m. at Spring Creek Hall. The cost is $15 for adults, $10 for those under 10, and features the main dishes, coleslaw, beans, rolls, desserts and drinks. Entrance to the dance only is $5. This is a tobacco and alcohol-free event.

Spring carnival this Monday at Ignacio Middle School

The High Expectation Committee at Ignacio High School is holding its third annual spring carnival from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday at Ignacio Middle School. Activities include a cake walk, bottle toss, bouncy house, fish pond, snacks, putting green and much more. Tickets are 25 cents each or five for $1. For more information, call 563-0500.

Dancing Spirit Gallery hosting family art night

Dancing Spirit and the Building Bridges through Art program will host Family Art Night from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, featuring Southern Ute Academy children's artwork.  Building Bridges through Art is a community teaching program funded through a U.S. Department of Justice Tribal Youth grant to the Southern Ute Indian Tribe.  The public is invited to join the gallery for a community potluck and dress-up event. Bayfield Yard Sale Day taking place June 7

The Bayfield Chamber of Commerce is organizing the town's annual Yard Sale Day on Saturday, June 7. The cost for being on the map is $5 before May 30, and $10 after that until June 3. The map will be printed in the Pine River Times on Friday, June 6.

BEEP offering summer camp

Bayfield Early Education Programs is offering summer camps for children ages 3 to 8 in June and July.  The camps are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, June 2 to 26 and July 7 to 31.  Children will experience lots of outdoor time, crafts, field trips, stories and other fun activities led by the BEEP staff.  The schedule is flexible to accommodate swimming lessons, bible schools and vacations.  Applications are available at the school and online.  For more information, contact 884-7137 or beeprograms@qwestoffice.net.

TARA Treasure Trail, health activities set for tomorrow

The Tiffany Allison Rosa Arboles Treasure Trail and plant exchange will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow at the TARA Community Center at 333 Milton Lane in Arboles. Yard sales will be held at the center and throughout the Arboles area. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the center to promote healthier living. Proceeds from the meal will benefit American Cancer Society Relay For Life and Take Shape For Life Scholarship Fund.

Water conservation district holding workshop on cloud seeding

Local, state and regional cloud seeding (weather modification) experts will speak at a free workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, May 15 at the Durango Recreation Center.

The workshop is hosted by Southwestern Water Conservation District, and will include presentations on the State of Colorado's weather modification program, research from Wyoming and Texas, and local program operations. The event is open to the public and free of charge.  Reservations are not necessary.

The Southwestern Water Conservation District was established by the Colorado legislature in 1941 to protect, conserve, use and develop the waters in the San Juan and Dolores River basins.

Learning center teaching class on raised bed gardening

Pine River Community Learning Center will teach a class on raised bed gardening from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday at the Ignacio site at 535 Candelaria Drive. The cost is $25. Please call 563-0861 to preregister by 3 p.m. Tuesday.

DurangoRoller Girls teaching basics of roller derby

Durango Roller Girls are hosting Roller Derby 101 on from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 18 at Chapman Hill Rink.
