Vendor spaces open for arts and crafts fair

A limited number of vendor spaces are available for the Pine River Seniors holiday arts and crafts fair on Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Pine River Senior Center.

Table spaces, 6'x 6', are $25, with a maximum 24 spaces available on a first-come basis. Applications are at http://www.bayfieldgov.org/services/documents/2014VendorApplication_000.pdf.

The fair is a primary fundraiser for the seniors. Concessions will be sold, and there will be a bake sale and a silent auction with a wide variety of items donated by area businesses. The fair will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the senior center near the rodeo grounds south of Joe Stephenson Park.

Color run tomorrow at BHS

The Bayfield High School Friends of Rachel Club is hosting a 5K colored chalk run at 9 a.m. Saturday. Registration starts at 8 a.m. at Bayfield High School. Registration forms are at wolverinedash.weebly.com. It is $15 for pre-registration and $20 on race day. F.O.R Club strives to spread kindness and raise awareness of bullying in our community. We'd like to see you there spreading the kindness!

Cowboy Gathering Parade tomorrow

The Durango Cowboy Poetry Gathering Parade, one of the largest motorless parades in the country, will start at 10 a.m. Saturday. It will begin at Main and College and continue to 11th Street. This year's theme is "Honoring the Ranch Woman" and the Grand Marshal will be Mrs. Francis Hotter. Live music starts at 9:30 a.m. at various locations on along the parade route. A gunfight at the Strater Hotel will kick off the festivities.

Lions Club to sponsor Ladies Day Shoot

The Bayfield Lions Club and Wolverine School of Personal Safety will host a ladies-only basic defensive pistol class on Saturday, Oct. 11 at the Bayfield Lions Club/Art Davis range on CR 223. The class will start at 9 a.m. and finish at 11 a.m. Hearing and eye protection will be necessary, sun glasses are acceptable.  The rifle/pistol range will be closed to all other shooting during this event.  Husbands and boyfriends are not invited, sorry guys.

Ladies of any experience are welcome; they should bring handguns and ammunition. Participants will learn basic safety and defensive shooting skills or hone the ones they already have. An experienced NRA instructor and assistants will run the class and be available to answer questions.  Targets are provided.

The class is free but donations are appreciated and will go the Bayfield Lions Club.

Basketball sign up due today

Bayfield Parks and Recreation will host fifth and sixth grade youth basketball Oct. 25 through Nov. 22. Registration is due at 5 p.m. today at town hall, the fee is $35. For more information, call 884-9544.

Library offering computer classes

Pine River Public Library is offering a beginner's computer class on Oct. 8, an iPad class Oct. 15, an Android tablet class on Oct. 23, and beginning Microsoft Word on Nov. 4. For class times and to register, call 884-2222.

Museum hosting breakfast

The Animas Museum will hold a chuckwagon breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 at the Museum, 3065 West Second Ave.

A hearty cowboy breakfast and coffee will be served by Harry Baxstrom and his chuckwagon crew. Tickets are $10, children 3 and younger are $3. Advance tickets may be purchased at the Museum. The public is invited, and proceeds will benefit the Museum.

There will also be a special presentation by Marsha Bankston, "Lizzy Knight: From English Blacksmith to Colorado Ranch Woman."

Library seeks science task force members

The Pine River Library is looking for volunteers to be a part of the "Fun With Science" task force. The group is responsible for assisting with science programming at the library.

"The lesson plans are there, now we just need people to help us get children excited about science," says Elizabeth von Tauffkirchen, children's coordinator for the library.

Punt, Pass and Kick tomorrow

Bayfield Parks and Recreation will host the NFL Punt, Pass and Kick from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow in Joe Stephenson Park. The contest is open for boys and girls 6 to 15.
