Water policy comments sought
Public comment on draft county policies related to water will be taken by the county Water Advisory Commission (WAC) on Thursday, April 23, at 1 p.m. at the County Road and Bridge conference room, 1365 S. Camino del Rio in Durango.
The commissioners formed the WAC last year to encompass numerous water-related issues that La Plata County is currently exploring. The WAC has been discussing these issues for the past year and is in the process of formulating policy bulletins to address and answer these questions.
The policy questions and draft bulletins are available for review at www.co.laplata.co.us or directly at: http://laplatacountyco.iqm2.com/Citizens/Detail_Meeting.aspx?ID=2778
Please call the La Plata County Commissioners' Office at 382-6219 with any questions.
Commissioner holds office hours at fairgrounds
County Commissioner Gwen Lachelt will hold office hours to meet with the public on Monday, April 20, from noon 2 p.m. at the La Plata County Fairgrounds Extension Building. All community members are invited to come with questions or comments on county issues. Lachelt plans to do this each month. Commissioner Julie Westendorff holds similar sessions at the Pine River Library in Bayfield on the first Thursday each month. For information, call 382-6219.
LPEA to host Lunch & Lights info session
La Plata Electric Association will hold its next free "Lunch & Lights" workshop on Wednesday, April 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at LPEA headquarters, 45 Stewart St. in Durango.
The workshop is designed to help co-op members understand the new lighting technology and save energy. All those interested in learning more about LED (light-emitting diode) lamps and more are invited to attend.
Lunch will be served. Please RSVP to LPEA project specialist Ray Pierotti at 382-7770 or rpierotti@lpea.coop.
"Lighting technology continues to evolve quickly, and we continue to field questions from our members," Pierotti said. "At the workshops we will share the latest information about the basics of light bulbs - especially LEDs. I hope to answer a lot of questions, including how to identify the appropriate LED bulb for each application."
As Pierotti notes, though the price for LEDs is dropping, the cost still remains higher than other lighting sources, so it pays for LPEA members to do their homework before purchasing. LPEA also offers a variety of lighting rebates for both residents and businesses, which helps mitigate the cost of changing out bulbs, and those options will be reviewed.
