Evening drum circles starting in Bayfield
Want to make music and dance around the Pine River Library's fire pit this summer? The library is hosting three drum circles, with the first one scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, June 26.
Mike Guttman from the Stillwater Foundation will lead the circles each evening. The foundation provides educational opportunities to youth and adults of all ages and abilities. Guttman is a conga player and percussionist who began mentoring Stillwater students in 2009.
Participants are invited to dance, play drums, or bring other musical instruments to add to the merriment. For more information about the Drum Circles, contact Judy Poe at 884-2222, ext. 513.
Bayfield Farmers Market to open July 12
The dates for this year's farmers markets at Bayfield Roadside Park are every Saturday, 8:30 a.m. until noon, starting July 12 through Oct. 11.
Bayfield Lions Club to sponsor ladies day shoot
The Bayfield Lions Club and Wolverine School of Personal Safety will host a ladies only basic defensive pistol class from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 28 at the Bayfield Lions Club/Art Davis range on CR 223
Hearing and eye protection are required; sunglasses are acceptable. The rifle/pistol range will be closed to all other shooting during this event. Husbands and boyfriends are not invited, sorry guys.
Ladies of any experience are welcome; bring your handguns and ammunition. Women will learn learn basic safety and defensive shooting skills or hone the ones they already have. An experienced NRA instructor and assistants will run the class and be available to answer questions. Targets are provided and bottled water will be available.
The class is free but donations are appreciated and will go the Bayfield Lions Club. For more information call Jim at 382-5392.
Travel aboard the National Geographic Explorer through new program at library
Take the trip of a lifetime without leaving Bayfield! Pine River Library lecturer and former professor, Mark Curran, will present "Brazil to Argentina" at 7 p.m. starting Tuesday, June 24. The program will continue for a seven-week voyage through Belém de Pará, Corcovado, Rio de Janeiro, Montevideo, and more. This seven-week series will summarize Curran's experience last fall aboard the "National Geographic Explorer" as a staff member for Lindblad Expeditions. Southwest Center for Independence holding annual potluck
The Southwest Center for Independence, a local nonprofit that helps people with disabilities live well in our community, is having its annual Kaa-vi- Nuu-ci Tuvu-pu (Ute Mountain Lands) Vallecito potluck picnic from noon to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25 at the north end of Vallecito Reservoir. Town of Bayfield continuing visioning process on economic issues
The Town of Bayfield is having a follow-up meeting on its visioning process to discuss economic development and business issues. The meeting is at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 25 at Bayfield Town Hall. Four Corners Pet Expo taking place tomorrow
The first Four Corners Pet Expo will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the La Plata County Fairgrounds. There will be vendor spaces with pet services, as well as displays and pet adoptions by organizations such as the La Plata County Humane Society and Annie's Orphans. Free hot dogs will be served from 11 a.m. until they're gone. Other activities include speakers, a bouncy house for kids, and door prizes including a custom wood dog house. Admission is $3 for adults or a pet food donation, children can attend for free. Please leave pets at home!
Free vendor space available for Gem Village festival
Off the Beaten Path, an "artistic explosion event" will be held from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 19 in Gem Village.
Artistic vendors will line the pathways on both sides of U.S. Highway 160 in Gem Village.
