Library holding class on ereaders, books

Ignacio Community Library is offering a free class overviewing different eReaders, eBooks, and how to check out library books from home. Volunteers sought for county planning commission

The La Plata County Board of County Commissioners is seeking interested residents of La Plata County to serve on the planning commission. Planning commission members act in an advisory capacity to the Board of County Commissioners with respect to land-use planning.

This position is advisory and is not paid. However, reasonable mileage expenses will be reimbursed and a meal provided. An application and board description may be obtained online at www.co.laplata.co.us, or from the information desk at the La Plata County Courthouse. Applications are due by Nov. 21. Chef cooking gluten-free holiday dinner

"The Gluten-Free Holiday Feast" is a free, demonstration-style cooking class at the Pine River Public Library.  Executive Chef Pedro Ulibarri, from Fort Lewis College Dining Services, will show participants how to prepare seared tenderloin with rosemary au jus, spring mix salad and julienne butternut squash. Free samples and recipes will be provided. The class will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18. Advance signup is required, as space is limited. Bell ringers needed in Bayfield

Once again it is time to organize for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign.  Bayfield community members are being recruited to ring the bell at The Grocery Store Nov. 24-Dec. 24.  Three shifts at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. are available for ringing.  Funds raised are used for emergency needs of La Plata County residents.  Please contact Carol Blatnick at 884-2884 or cblatnick@gobrainstorm.net to sign up.

Taste of Christmas set for Dec. 5

The Ignacio Community Library will host "Taste of Christmas" from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5. Come to the library for popcorn balls, cookies, hot chocolate, a holiday craft activity, and a picture with Santa. For more information, call 563-9287.

Regional water plan meeting to be held in Bayfield

The Colorado Water Plan and the Southwest Basin Implementation Plan will be the topic of a meeting Wednesday in Bayfield.

The Southwest Basin Roundtable invites residents to an informational meeting to learn more about the content of these draft documents and to share their water related input with local Roundtable representatives. Review and comments on both drafts can be made at at http://coloradowaterplan.com/.

Alpaca farmer offering felted soap class

JoAnn Sloan will teach a felted soap class from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22 at Dancing Spirit Community Arts Center in Ignacio. The felt, made from alpaca fiber, contains soap, and they are a good exfoliant.
