LPEA hosting lighting workshops

Continuing its free information series designed to help co-op members understand the new lighting technology and save energy, La Plata Electric Association (LPEA) will host two "Lunch & Lights" workshops in February. All those interested in learning more about LED (light-emitting diode) lamps and more are invited to attend.

Both workshops are set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and lunch will be served. On Thursday, Feb. 12, "Lunch & Lights" will be held at LPEA's Durango headquarters at 45 Stewart St. (Bodo Park). On Tuesday, Feb. 17 the workshop is scheduled for Ruby M. Sisson Memorial Library, 811 San Juan St. in Pagosa Springs.

"Lighting technology is changing at a rapid clip and we're continually fielding questions from our members," said Ray Pierotti, project specialist who oversees lighting programs for LPEA. "At the workshops we will share the latest information about the basics of light bulbs - especially LEDs. I hope to answer a lot of questions, including how to identify the appropriate LED bulb for each application."

As Pierotti notes, though the price for LEDs is dropping, the cost still remains higher than other lighting sources, so it pays for LPEA's members to do their homework before purchasing. LPEA also offers a variety of lighting rebates for both residents and businesses, which helps mitigate the cost of changing out bulbs, and those options will be reviewed.

Because lunch will be served, those interested in attending are asked to RSVP to rpierotti@lpea.coop or 382-7770.
