NRA banquet set for Feb. 21

Tickets are now available for the 2015 Friends of NRA banquet on Feb. 21 at Sky Ute Casino in Ignacio. The evening features a dinner, live and silent auctions and raffles. Dinner tickets are $55 a single or $100 per couple. "Buy one get one free" raffle ticket packages are also available for purchase until Feb. 7.

Organizers also are selling raffle tickets for a Barrett .50 caliber rifle with scope and case, a $12,500 value. Tickets for the Barrett are $100 each, and only 200 tickets will be sold. The winning ticket will be drawn the night of the banquet. The winner need not be present to win.

Democrats honoring Martin Luther King

La Plata Democrats will have a soup and soul potluck dinner from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Manna Soup Kitchen in Durango. The event honors the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Participants should bring a dish to share. Suggested donation is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Beer and wine will be available.

Fermented foods class at library

Ignacio Community Library will host a class exploring the health benefits of kimchi, kefir, sauerkraut and more. The class is at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24. Grange hosting family night

Mt. Allison Grange is hosting a fun family event on Jan 24.  Starting at 3:30 there will be crafts and games for all ages.  At 5 p.m. there will be a potluck, followed by a good ol' fashioned family movie at 6 p.m.  The community is invited to come participate in all or any part of the festivities.  For more information, email mtallisongrange@gmail.com or call 799-3064.

Ignacio library holding website, eReader classes

Ignacio Community Library will host a class on building a website at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20. The class focuses on the basics, with no web experience required.

"Libraries, eReaders and tablets" will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27. Readers can learn how to use an eReader and tablet and check out eBooks.

Pine River Creates class at senior center

The Pine River Library is sponsoring monthly "Pine River Creates" days at the Pine River Senior Center. 

"The cards are simple to make, and we bring all the supplies," says Marshall. "We just ask our participants to bring their creativity!"

The "Pine River Creates" days are the third Tuesday of every month, at 10 a.m. at the Pine River Senior Center in Bayfield. This month's "Pine River Creates" Day will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
