This month, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Durango was the target of three anti-LGBTQ acts of vandalism.
Our rainbow flag was stolen; we replaced it, and then it was stolen again. A few days later, our large outdoor banner was cut down from its high place beneath our stained glass windows. To the person(s) responsible for these acts, we say: Thank you. Thank you for reminding us that we have work to do in this community, that we need to be big and loud in our message of love, inclusivity and welcome.
Thank you for bringing renewed attention to the words on our banner: “We are love’s hands in the world. We are called to create justice.” Thank you for keeping us from becoming complacent.
In response to your act, we will be giving away small rainbow flags from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 30 at UUFD, 419 San Juan Drive in Durango. The public is welcome.
