Vandalism cancels Road Runner bus to Grand Junction

Road Runner will resume Wednesday
The Road Runner Stage Lines daily trip to Grand Junction was canceled Tuesday because of damage to a bus tire.

The Road Runner Stage Lines bus route to Grand Junction was canceled Tuesday because of vandalism to a tire.

Peter Tregillus, program developer at the Southern Ute Community Action Programs, which oversees the bus service, said vandals apparently slashed the rear tag axle on the bus, which was parked in leased space behind the Centennial shopping center on South Camino del Rio.

“Our driver was doing a routine check this morning and said someone had taken a knife and carved a slash with multiple strokes into one of the tires,” Tregillus said. “They didn’t pop the tire, but we didn’t want to drive with it.”

Road Runner reported the incident to the Durango Police Department.

Since July 2014, the bus service makes one round-trip to Grand Junction daily, departing from the Durango Transit Center at 7 a.m. It makes nine stops between Durango and Grand Junction.

It is unclear how many passengers were affected by the cancellation, or the cost of damages. The Stage Lines service is expected to operate as scheduled Wednesday.
