A single-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 160 closed the westbound lane at mile marker 75 between Durango and Hesperus.
Two people were in the vehicle, which caught fire after crashing, said Colorado State Patrol Sgt. Ivan Alvarado. Both occupants were removed from the car and taken to Mercy Hospital.
Colorado Department of Transportation spokesperson Adair Christensen said both lanes of the road were initially closed to allow emergency vehicles to respond, but the eastbound lane has since reopened and is alternating traffic in both directions.
Alvarado said the vehicle fire spread to a nearby field, and emergency crews responded to douse the flames.
