Durango police are looking for a vehicle possibly connected to the Oct. 16 vandalism at the city of Durango water dock on South Camino del Rio.
A two-tone Ford Bronco 2 with a brush guard is the vehicle of interest, Lt. Ray Shupe said Monday.
Anyone with information may contact Detective Brad Roach at 375-4738 or leave an anonymous tip at Durango-La Plata Crime Stoppers at 247-1112.
Vandals did such a thorough job that the station had to be replaced at a cost of almost $13,000, not counting labor. The replacement opened Monday.
An estimated $100 to $300 in $1 bills and quarters were taken by the vandals, who struck at 5 a.m. The time was recorded at city offices when the vandals cut data-link wires.
The water dock was moved to South Camino del Rio from Chapman Hill when the roundabout was built there. In the summer, the station dispenses an estimated 100,000 gallons of water a week, mostly to residents of unincorporated areas of La Plata County.
The new dock operates with a debit card available at City Hall, 949 East Second Avenue. Coins and bills are no longer accepted.
