A single-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon on U.S. Highway 550 about a mile south of the top of Farmington Hill took down a power line and snarled traffic for about a half hour, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
A semi-trailer crashed into a La Plata Electric Association utility pole at 12:26 p.m., said LPEA spokesman Lonnie Tucker.
The crash occurred at 12951 U.S. Highway 550, south of Durango, and knocked a power line onto the road, said Colorado State Patrol Capt. Adrian Driscoll.
No injuries were reported; the driver of the truck, Cheryl Kraft, 52, of Illinois was cited for careless driving, Driscoll said.
The downed power line “pretty much shut down” Highway 550 south for about 30 minutes, Driscoll said.
LPEA did not report customer outages as a result of the crash, Tucker said. Electric crews planned to repair the utility pole with lines energized, he said.
LPEA plans to close the highway for repairs, but Driscoll said the company has not announced when it will fix the utility pole and power lines. The company declined to release a timeline for repairs.
“This is going to be an extended replacement,” Tucker said.
