Verizon mobile service takes a hit

Some Verizon customers experienced decreased service Tuesday because of problems with a cell site south of Durango.

The site started “acting up” around 11:30 a.m. and affected coverage in the southwest part of downtown Durango and on U.S. Highway 160 south of the city, said Verizon spokesman Bob Kelley.

The cell site was taken off the air for repairs about 2 p.m., he said, but crews were unsure what the problem was.

Customers could still get service after the site was taken down.

“They would still be able to make calls and send data. It will just not be as efficient until the cell site is brought back on the air,” Kelley said.
