Veterans can ride for free in Durango

Anonymous donor purchases 2017 passes for veterans
An anonymous donor has purchased transit passes for veterans in 2017.

An anonymous donor will pay for annual Durango Transit passes for veterans in Durango and La Plata County during 2017, the city announced this week.

There is no cap on the number of passes that can be given away, Assistant City Manager Amber Blake said.

For the last two years, the city sold annual passes to veterans for $30 and last year the city sold 68 annual passes to veterans, she said.

The donor will pay for passes at the reduced rate, she said.

An annual adult transit pass is $306.

Veterans who would like a free pass should bring photo identification and veteran identification to the Transit Center, 250 W. 8th Street. The center is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
