VFW Post 4031 will distribute Buddy Poppies May 23 through May 25. Poppies are made by Disabled Veterans and purchased by local VFW Post 4031 for distribution to the public at area supermarkets. All donations stay local and are used to assist veterans and their families. They do not have to be members of the VFW to receive assistance.
Flags will be placed on Veterans' graves throughout La Plata County on Saturday and retrieved on Tuesday.
There will be a memorial service at 10 a.m. Monday, May 16 at the Vietnam Memorial in Iris Park, followed by one at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial at Greenmount Cemetery. This will be followed by a wreath ceremony at about 11:45 a.m., on the Ninth Street bridge honoring all who have lost their life at sea.
An open house will follow at VFW Post 4031, 1550 Main Ave. May 26th at approximately 12:30 p.m.
