La Plata County will host a presentation and virtual open house to provide information to residents about more accurate and updated floodplain maps from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday on Zoom.
Floodplains are regulated by Federal Emergency Management Agency; and over the last four years, Colorado Water Conservation Board worked with the engineering firm AECOM to prepare more accurate and updated floodplain maps for La Plata County drainages, rivers and watersheds.
The revised map information provides technical, hydrological data that is used to administer floodplain management regulations and assure compliance with the National Flood Insurance Program.
This floodplain map modernization program will ultimately result in the adoption of new and more accurate floodplain maps for use with La Plata County’s floodplain management regulations and to assist local property owners, insurance agencies and financial institutions in determining flood hazard zones in La Plata County.
