The Durango Area Tourism Office is thrilled to announce Grace Shepard was presented with the Southwest Women in Business award for Tourism at a reception in Durango on Feb. 28.
Southwest Colorado Women in Business recognizes outstanding women working in La Plata and Montezuma communities. The tourism category highlights those who excel at supporting both visitors to the region and the overall tourism industry. Over 250 nominations were received, representing 135 individual nominees.
Shepard has worked for the Durango Area Tourism Office since 2009. In 2013 she was instrumental helping to launch the Durango Welcome Center as Visitor Services Concierge. Shepard is now the DWC Visitor Services and Operations Manager and a commissioner of the Tracks Across Borders Byway and the San Juan Skyway Byway council.
“There is no one more deserving of this award,” says Carrie Whitley, DATO Board Chair. “Grace is primarily responsible for the Durango Welcome Center, which is one of the most creative and inviting visitor centers in all of Colorado.” Southwest Colorado Women in Business is a magazine and awards competition managed by Ballantine Communications.
