Senior Kiana Valdez held serve for the 10 most important points during Ignacio's road trip to Mancos, and shut the whole Oct. 2 show down with a match-point ace as IHS picked up a needed 2A/1A San Juan Basin League victory 20-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-20.
"Her serving placement in the fourth was amazing," head coach Thad Cano said, noting Valdez went behind the line with Ignacio trailing the Jays by five points.
Coming in off a loss at Nucla this past Saturday, Sept. 29, the Volleycats got nine kills and two blocks from junior Makayla Howell. Valdez totaled three and two, while senior Amethyst 'Misty' Egger-Morris had two kills and five key service aces.
Freshman Alexis Pontine turned in an all-around effort with five kills, 12 digs and six aces.
Up next, Ignacio (3-11, 2-5 SJBL) will host Telluride on Saturday, Oct. 6, with undercard action set to begin at 11 a.m. THS will prepare for the trip by welcoming Dove Creek the night before.
