San Juan College will host the 42nd annual Luminaria Display at 6 p.m. Dec. 5 and is seeking volunteers for preparation and set up.
This year’s event will be drive-thru only in order to keep visitors safe. Campus will be closed to walkers. Drivers will enter the college from Butler Avenue, traveling north on Sunrise Parkway and follow the marked route through the campus to exit at College Boulevard. Traffic will be required to turn south onto 30th Street. The Pinon Hills Boulevard entrance will be closed during the luminaria display.
All drivers are asked to turn their lights off as they drive through the display. Drivers will also be asked to stay in their cars.
The sounds of the season will be broadcast on San Juan College’s listener-supported radio station, KSJE 90.9-FM, and streamed at www.KSJE.com.
Community members are invited to volunteer by setting up bags at 1 p.m. Dec. 4 and at 9 a.m. Dec. 5, or by lighting candles at 3 p.m. Dec 5. After the evening display, small groups are invited to help with clean up at 10 a.m. Dec. 6. Campus will open to vehicles to pick up and re-use the luminarias at organizations or homes.
