Voss named all-league for Bayfield soccer

Sandvik earns honorable mention for 2014

High-rising to any and all headers in his vicinity, and practically able to play wherever head coach Dave Foster needed him during a difficult one-win 2014, senior Michael Voss was Bayfield's lone First Team All-Southwestern soccer selection for 3A competition.

Voss was primarily a defender and will be incredibly difficult to replace next fall.

"It's more about that leadership and the experience because, overall, we're just an inexperienced team," Foster said after BHS' season-finale at Pagosa Springs. "Having that experience and that leadership and positive energy.it brings the best out in the freshmen."

"Because there is a big difference between a freshman and a senior," he continued, "and when you start seven freshmen and we're-basically-against grown men, we need leadership to.support those young players."

Voss' explanation for the team's progression this ytear was best summarized that day as well.

"We just started moving the ball, trying to make our passes connect," he said. "Make our one-touch, two-touch better.just make sure our touches were into space and making runs off the ball."

"We're going to build off what we had, and keep the momentum going forward."

One-year standout junior Viktor Sandvik, the Wolverines' exchange student-athlete from Norway, was named Honorable Mention All-SWL after helping energize the forward line of an attack that thoroughly dominated 2013's scoring output and surprised opponents.
