Durango voters should be aware of this: Our 9-R school board consists of unpaid community volunteers who care enough about our children’s education to give their time freely for the benefit of our schools. The board does not set the curriculum and is not involved in day-to-day management decisions. Their role consists of policymaking, oversight and the allocation of resources to give our superintendent the means necessary to provide for the students’ best interest.
We are now extremely fortunate to have a magnificent new 9-R superintendent in Dr. Karen Cheser. It will be the new board’s responsibility to give her the support she needs to ensure our Durango students continue to meet the district’s educational goals.
I enthusiastically support the election of candidates Erika Brown and Andrea Parmenter to the 9-R board. Both were instrumental in bringing this outstanding new Superintendent to Durango, and both have dedicated literally thousands of hours to our district over many years, volunteering in classrooms and serving on school committees.
The third candidate, Rick Petersen, also has a strong track record of dedication and commitment to the youth in our community. He has served as a Scout leader, a soccer coach and a Lego League coach. Moreover, all three candidates have children who attend 9-R schools. These three candidates are clearly the best candidates to support our children in 9-R.
Please cast your vote for these three awesome candidates. They have each been endorsed by the Durango teachers and support staff associations.
Tim Guill,
