I know both Congressional District 3 candidates Jeff Hurd and Adam Frisch. Both are capable men. Frisch, I met when he stood in a hot crowded room and talked about being a gun owner, defender of our water rights and advocate for mental health care.
I also know his opponent.
I met Jeff Hurd when I was writing opinion pieces in support of Delta-Montrose Electric Association’s broadband arm – Elevate. Hurd was their attorney. They were in a dogfight for grants against big-city, TDS Telecom.
That Jeff Hurd, the savvy attorney, hasn’t shown up for this fight. He’s not on the road, he’s not showing us he even cares about Southwest Colorado. Where is he?
Meanwhile, the man who wants the job is Adam Frisch. He proves it with every mile (60,000 and counting) he’s put on his beleaguered vehicle.
Voters, think about our mutual rural values. Hard work and community. Yesterday, I saw a young man wade into the Animas for an elderly man’s dog. Do you think he asked him what political party he was in before he plunged? Just 50 yards above Smelter Rapids.
Adam Frisch embodies that mindset. He’s working, talking to voters and explaining his stance on tough issues.
The Hurd I know could work that hard – but he’s not. Mostly, he’s been absent.
I ask voters to not think in red or blue. Think about what you value and who will pick up the phone when the chips are down. That’s Frisch.
