Vote ‘for’ Ballot Measure 2A

I am writing as a 27-year resident of the city of Durango and 18-year member of the former Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.

Durango’s registered voters will soon receive a ballot with a very important question on it concerning the renewal of a half-cent sales tax.

If you have ever:

  • Watched or played soccer, lacrosse, flag football, softball, baseball or any other organized sport on one of the many fields in Durango.
  • Walked, hiked, biked, sauntered, explored, seen birds large to small, relaxed by the Animas River, traveled from here to there away from traffic and busy, noisy streets on our treasured Animas River Trail.
  • Played pickleball, tennis, basketball, raced around the BMX Track, enjoyed one of our many world class bike trails.
  • Enjoyed swimming, paddling, water skiing, floating, boating, fishing, picnicking, walking your dog at Lake Nighthorse.
  • Visited any of our vast acres of open space to commune with the trees, bees, flowers, bushes, animals from squirrels to bears to deer to coyotes.
  • Taken your children or grandchildren to just be kids running, jumping, frolicking, laughing in green spaces.
  • Wanted to preserve, maintain and expand all these amenities, both organized, active and loud as well as calm, quiet and individual.

This half-cent sales tax will allow Durango to continue to be the wonderful paradise we all enjoy every day in some small way.
