Facts I think the voters may have forgotten about the county commissioners running for re-election: Gwen Lachelt and Julie Westendorff both voted to raise their pay. If they are re-elected, their salaries will go from $72,500 to $94,250 a year. These ladies both voted to accept the raise. This in a year that they also are asking taxpayers to raise our taxes for road and bridges, which I support, and for a new airport.
They voted to pay for the airport by asking the property owners to raise our property taxes instead of through a county sales tax. This because the Durango City Council refused to go with a sales tax. I would have voted to support the airport if it had been a county sales tax but not by raising my property tax. This is being touted as a regional airport. Why then would they vote to have only the property owners of La Plata County pay for it?
I will vote to support Lyle McKnight and Kayla Patterson. I believe both are qualified and will do what is best for the majority of residents.
I do not understand why anyone would vote for Hillary Clinton; every time she opens her mouth a lie comes out. She and Bill both were disbarred as lawyers because of their constant lies. Why would anyone want to put her back in the White House?
I will be voting for Donald Trump as I feel he gives this country the best chance for recovering from the last eight years of incompetence and constant executive orders. If we put Clinton in the White House, it will be more years of Constitution-ignoring.
I support J. Paul Brown. He has been doing a great job and I admire that he has run a clean campaign regardless of the lies being said about him. I will not support Sen. Michael Bennett because as a protector of our Second Amendment, he gets a total failing grade, and I cannot support anyone who does not uphold our Constitution.
