I’m writing to support the three candidates running for the Durango School District 9-R school board who have been endorsed by Durango teachers and professional staff. They are Rick Petersen, Andrea Parmenter and Erika Brown.
These candidates are committed to our public schools and will work hard to make them even better. All three have children in our Durango schools and are ready to roll up their sleeves and work with our new superintendent to tackle the many issues the district faces. They believe our public schools are a community responsibility dependent on committed, supportive teachers, staff members, administrators and families, and they will work with our entire community to make sure that every child has the opportunity to succeed.
As continuing board members, Andrea and Erika helped to hire our outstanding new superintendent, Karen Cheser, and are looking forward to continuing to work with her to improve teacher pay, increase school funding and improve performance in our schools. Both were instrumental in helping to pass the 2020 school bond issue, which will provide additional funding for the district’s needs.
Rick is a longtime Scout leader who has worked with Durango’s young people in scouting and as a soccer coach, and has been actively involved with his children’s school. This is an important election, and these great candidates need your vote.
