This year’s election for the La Plata Electric Association board of directors could prove to be a pivotal moment for the energy and economic future of our local community. As the costs of solar-generated power and other forms of renewable energy have dropped far below the cost of burning coal, LPEA and the Four Corners stand to reap tremendous benefits by taking advantage of the all-time low costs of solar energy. However, pursuing a renewable future for our region will require proven leadership.
Tim Wheeler, running for re-election in District 4, understands the importance of investing in our community and in reducing our dependence on outdated, imported coal power. As a founder and board member of Local First, he has been a longtime advocate of keeping Durango-area dollars within our community. His hands-on experience running a local business, coupled with his work over the last three years on the LPEA board, position him well to lead our cooperative toward a more renewable future.
If you care about the future economic and energy health of our region, please consider voting for Tim Wheeler.
