I support the La Plata County 1-cent sales tax increase and ask you to vote “Yes” on 1A on your ballot in this election. The services La Plata County provides are essential for everyone, including those who live in the city: running fair and open elections; ensuring safety in the event of a fire or, as we’ve seen in Vallecito, historic flooding.
The county operates human services programs for families and children in crisis, including protecting senior citizens who may be experiencing abuse or neglect. The public health department ensures food safety through restaurant inspections and water and well testing. Additionally, it provides clinic services, suicide prevention, and other environmental health programs, as well as assistance with navigating health insurance. The senior center delivers thousands of meals, serves as a gathering place for many, and provides vital transit and outreach services for elders across the County
