The last few months have made us all aware of the crucial role that first responders play in our communities.
Close to home, we witnessed how their amazing efforts led to containment of the Lightner Creek Fire.
What we don’t witness is that they save lives every day.
These people go to work not knowing what challenges and dangers they may face, prepared to risk their lives to save ours. They deserve our respect and support. At the very least they deserve uncrowded living quarters and safe, modern vehicles and equipment.
Emergency calls increase as revenues remain stagnant, forcing the use of capital improvement funds for day-to-day operations. This is not sustainable.
Equipment must be updated and staffing increased or people in emergencies could wait longer for help because of limited vehicles and personnel. How terrible that people could die because the trained people who could save them cannot get to the scene on time.
Who would choose this over a moderate mill levy increase? It’s important to vote yes to support the Durango Fire Protection District.
