William Shakespeare famously asked, “What’s in a name?” The meaning behind the famous reply – “a rose by any other name would smell as sweet” – suggests there is more to consider than name recognition when casting your vote for Colorado’s highest elected offices this June.
Recent polls indicate that Attorney General Phil Weiser trails in name recognition in the governor’s race. However, he is who Colorado needs as governor because he has worked with state agencies for the past eight years, making him ready to lead on Day One. He also has done an excellent job defending the rights and freedoms of Coloradans.
Conversely, Colorado’s current secretary of state, now a candidate for attorney general, has an advantage in that race because of strong name recognition. That does not necessarily mean she is the best person for the job. Several other highly qualified candidates are also running.
Please do not base your vote solely on name recognition. Do your homework before these important elections. I urge voters to hear candidates speak about their values and experience, whether in person or online. Also visit campaign websites to learn more about their platforms and priorities.
