The Durango High School girls tennis team took on league foe Grand Junction Central on Thursday in Grand Junction.

The teams split the four doubles matches, but Central won two of the three singles matches to win the dual 4-3.

Without Sophia Gallagher, who has been playing at No. 1 singles for Durango, Ellie Davenport moved from No. 2 to the top spot and scored a 6-0, 6-0 win over Adi Hill.

Sydney Pritchard also moved up a spot to No. 2 singles but lost a tight match to Sydney Maurer 6-3, 6-4.

Isabel Bohachevsky stepped into the No. 3 singles position but fell 6-1, 6-3 against Alexis Wickham.

At No. 1 doubles, Adwyn Chowen and Juliet DiGiacomo won their match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, over Jordan Bauer and Tsifira Berger.

The Demons also won at No. 4 doubles. Avery Edgar and Rachel Ager lost the first set 6-2 against Claire Dziwisz and Joey Smith but rallied to win the next two sets 6-4, 6-3 to take the match.

The No. 2 doubles bout also needed a third set to decide a winner. Lola Bradshaw and Ellie McLean lost the first set 7-5 but won the second set 6-2 to keep the match alive. Central’s duo of Caysee Calton and Lenah Anderson, however, took the third set 6-3.

At No. 3 doubles, Litzy Lopez and Addie Cady fell 6-2, 6-2 against Central’s Kenidee Calton and Jennika Quintana.

Durango is now 2-2 overall and 1-1 in its 5A/4A Southwestern League duals. The team will next play its home opener April 8-9 against Grand Junction.
