The Dolores water dock has been repaired and went back in service Feb. 14.

Damage from vandalism forced the unit to close Feb. 6.

Somebody pried up the base plate, which disabled the coin operator needed to buy and receive water, said Montezuma County Sheriff Steve Nowlin.

No water was lost. Repair costs were more than $600, officials said. Specialty parts had to be ordered, delaying the fix.

The downed water dock was a big inconvenience for residents on Granath Mesa and others who rely on it for their domestic supply.

An estimated 50 residences regularly use the station to fill up tanks for home use. They were forced to travel to the Cortez or Mancos water docks to fill up their tanks.

The Dolores water dock charges approximately $2 for 100 gallons of water from the Dolores treatment plant. It is owned by the Town of Dolores.

Officials said they plan to install a security camera on the unit. There are no suspects in the vandalism case, Nowlin said. The unit was damaged sometime between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
