Water line break pinches north Durango along County Road 203

Closure in 1700 block extends to Tuesday

Water line breaks are part of life in cold climates and a common annoyance for utility departments and plumbers this time of year.

Temperatures were in the teens early Tuesday morning, gradually climbing to just above freezing as crews worked on a break in the 1700 block of County Road 203.

The northbound lane in the 1700 block of County Road 203 was closed Tuesday as Durango utility crews worked to repair the line. City officials did not respond to calls about the break, and no information about whether the water was shut off at residences or whether it would continue on Wednesday was provided.

La Plata County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched temporarily to the site to help with traffic, according to a release from the county.

Water and debris deluged an apartment complex parking lot. Officials were trying to get vehicles moved, but some owners reportedly were on vacation.

One resident on County Road 203 who was reached reported no issues with water service at her home in the 1700 block.
