City crews shut off water to homes in the Crestview neighborhood Wednesday while repairing valves and replacing a fire hydrant at the intersection of Leyden Street and Forest Avenue.
The water outage is likely affecting homes about two blocks in every direction from the repair, Assistant Utilities Director Jarrod Biggs said.
Water is expected to be restored by about 8 p.m.
Crews did inform residents they expected not to have water ahead of time, but it affected a larger area because of faulty valves.
The work on the scheduled repair started Wednesday morning, Biggs said.
