Water outage planned on College Drive

Crews working on sidewalks discuss the breakage of a waterline in the 1200 block of Main Avenue in 2013. The city will be repairing another line Thursday along College Drive.

An 18-inch water line has cracked and will affect customers along College Drive.

To repair the pipe, the city will be shutting off water to customers Thursday along College Drive, from East Eighth Avenue through the 700 block of Goeglein Gulch Road.

The water outage is scheduled to last from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. while the pipe is being repaired, said Steve Salka, Durango’s utilities director. If all goes well, city workers could be done by 2 p.m.

“We are diligently trying to get these things fixed as fast as possible,” he said.

Salka’s department is waiting for necessary parts to arrive but will be monitoring the pipe all day.

A tree root encircles the pipe and is holding it together, he said.
