To all last-minute voters, we all benefit from the services that our La Plata County departments provide. We all drive back and forth from work, go shopping or get to school on roads maintained by the Road and Bridge Department.
As with the upkeep of roads, there are many other needed departments. The Sheriff, Emergency Management, Motor Vehicles, Fairgrounds, Treasurer, Public Health, CSU Extension and Fairgrounds, Elections and another 20 unnamed departments all make our government work.
La Plata County’s real estate tax bill is the fifth lowest mill levy in Colorado of which our county government gets only about 15% with the remainder going to other entities like the school district.
Our businesses, hospitals, colleges and schools, as a matter of fact, our whole economy benefits from a well-functioning county government. We all benefit. Please vote “yes” in support of the proposed 1% sales tax.
