A Four Corners traveling exhibit, “We Are Water,” will be featured from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at the Pine River Library in Bayfield.

“The exhibit is for people of all ages,” said Pine River Library Assistant Director Darcy Poletti. “There will be a lot of interactive elements.”

The interactive exhibit will offer special programs and events for Pine River Valley community members, including educational games for children that will have water themes.

“We’re going to have this AR (augmented reality) sandbox, where kids can build hills and valleys and mountain ranges and then add ‘rain’ to the landscape and see how it falls over everything,” Poletti said. “It’s really cool and has a beautiful graphic design.”

She anticipates young visitors will also have an interest in the Plinko board that will be featured at the exhibit.

“The kids will allocate where the water beads fall and try to decide who gets the water resources,” Poletti said. “It’ll be fun.”

Older visitors will be invited to share memories and stories centered around water, connect with neighbors through common and unique experiences with water, and come together to imagine the future of water resources, rights and availability in their Southwest Colorado communities.

“We’ll have a wall with a TV with people from all over (Southwest Colorado) telling their water-related stories, included a few local people,” Poletti said. “Visitors will be encouraged to write down their own water stories on cards and add them to a panel of the exhibit.”

Community members will also go home with kits designed to help with further water research, including one with pH strips that can be used to test the water and other substances in and around the home and record findings and predictions in a notepad.

The exhibit will remain at Pine River Library until the end of January.

An earlier version of this story stated visitors could add their water stories to a video, instead of writing them down and adding them to a panel of the exhibit.
