We must condemn religious bigotry

A terrorist last week seized hostages at a synagogue in Colleyville, Texas. Religiously motivated hate crimes are on the rise, with assaults on Jews exceeding those on Muslims or other minorities.

Why is this happening in the United States, a nation founded on the premise of pluralism, where people of all faiths are guaranteed the liberty to pray and worship in their own way? Whatever the answer, people of goodwill must condemn such attacks.

I hope that I speak for my congregation in deploring religious bigotry and standing in solidarity with our Jewish sisters and brothers. Silence is complicity.
