I have contacted city, county, state, and federal government and news outlets over the past two or three years and nothing has happened to my request for automated doors at the U.S. Post Office in Durango.
The post office was built in 1979 when we had a population of 10, 000 and now, in 2025, 19,000. The Americans with Disabilities Act was passed in 1990 by President George Bush.
I guess it doesn’t affect people at the post office, so who gives a darn. Tell that to my friend who is a Veteran and had a stroke and needs a walker. They told me it was grandfathered in, but tell that to grandma who needs a walker.
Start with the chain of command – City Council all the way the top. This is 2025. I hope you don’t need automatic doors.
