As important as seeing Broncos football games is to many living in Southwest Colorado’s “Orphan Counties,” our need to receive Denver TV broadcasts is important on so many other levels, including our ability to know what’s going on in our state culturally, politically and economically, to obtain relevant information concerning Colorado’s government, understand bills being considered by the state legislature, receive detailed information about ballot issues and candidates running for statewide office, and on and on.
Also important is emergency and safety news such as information on road closures and forest fires. How did the private New York-based Nielsen Corporation obtain the right to dictate “market areas” for television viewers and to place us in the Albuquerque market?
Why can they prohibit PBS from broadcasting in other than Nielsen-designated market areas?
What can we do to encourage Denver TV stations to work with Direct TV and Dish to carry their stations?
I’m sure there is advertising revenue to be had.
Why don’t the Broncos, Rockies, etc., push them as well so that we in La Plata and Montezuma Counties can follow our favorite teams? We do not want to watch New Mexico’s business or political ads, crime reports, weather or sports. It’s time to bring this long-standing controversy to resolution.
Contact Nielsen and tell them to adjust our DMA, and let your congressional representatives know it’s time to make this long sought-after change a reality.
