There are many reasons a recall of Gwen Lachelt is bad for our county.
As many have written, the basic idea of recalling a twice-elected and term-limited commissioner undermines democracy itself. If we start down this path, we will find endless time and money spent from here on, when one agenda or the other finds the elected candidate undesirable.
In addition, we do need some land-use codes. You may feel some are too broad, but we have been encouraged to communicate our particular concerns and work with our commissioners to refine the code.
Protecting our water and our beautiful land and wildlife is protecting our economy.
If you have driven to Pagosa and been through the area of Turkey Springs, you will see an example of what our county could look like without some land-use codes.
