Instead of Durango hiring more firefighters, which I personally believe is not needed because we don’t have that many fires, it should concentrate its efforts on hiring more law enforcement and placing them where it’s needed, like Buckley park where the homeless are constantly fighting and causing havoc.
The city council should make rules or laws concerning public parks, such as after 1 a.m. the parks close, or that anyone caught in the parks after that can be fined or arrested (excluding the bike trails).
This would help alleviate the problem of homelessness in the parks.
As far as panhandling, there should be a law or rule declaring no panhandling within 100 feet of any ATM machine. This would help businesses with ATM machines keep panhandlers away from their doorstep and entryways.
It would also be nice to see the police start enforcing cell phone rules while driving. Drivers constantly talk or text while driving.
