We will pay for outside interference

Looks like La Plata County is really on the map now with the Koch brothers’ Americans for Prosperity dumping chunks of big money into our community to influence our elections.

And not just future elections, but rather they seek to overturn past elections of candidates who won fair and square!

I have always admired the independence of our citizens and how we maintain the virtues of talking and listening to each other and valuing the unique gifts we’re blessed with in our environment. When outsiders with their big national corporate agenda come into our community to recall the elected officials that we have put in office, it is an affront to our democracy and each and every one of us who have shaped and maintained the dynamic culture and values of our great community.

The efforts to recall Gwen Lachelt, based on inaccuracies and fueled by inciting fear around our land use policy, are largely being funded by secretive undisclosed corporate and individuals’ money from who knows where. These efforts, if successful, will ultimately result in diminishing our independence and redefining who we are.

And, we the taxpayers will pay the $60,000 bill for their interference. Come on La Plata County – let’s continue to show outside influences that we think for ourselves and determine our own destiny!
