Weak plea bargain is wrong for killers

My wife and I have just learned that Deputy District Attorney David Ottman has offered a plea bargain to the four defendants charged with first-degree murder in the killing of our grandson in a botched, but planned, home invasion and robbery.

Instead of learning about it by direct communication, we had to learn of these plea bargains through Facebook. We have been through too much suffering with this loss to sit by silently.

The details have not been entirely released and the discovery processes have been postponed repeatedly.

We have been informed that there is a “gag order,” so thus far none of the evidence compiled has been shared with us.

Too often, because of these kinds of plea bargains, killers and other heinous criminals are far too lightly punished for the crimes and the pain they cause.

Ottman should not offer any plea bargains to those charged with perpetrating this tragic death of our grandson.
