Website ranks Durango No. 3 small town in U.S.

A bluebird day earlier this year at Purgatory Resort, one of many nearby attractions that no doubt helped Durango be named one of the “Top 100 Best Small Towns” in the U.S., according to Livability.com rankings.

Internet listicles sure love Durango.

The latest? Livability.com named Durango No. 3 in a list of the “Top 100 Best Small Towns” in the U.S.

The only small towns to beat us were Lebanon, New Hampshire, which is somewhere in the northeastern part of the country at 597 feet elevation, and Los Alamos, New Mexico, a city best known for a science project that ended in 1947, a nuclear bomb that ended World War II.

Livability.com used more than 40 data points that consider amenities, affordability and other factors to rank towns with fewer than 20,000 residents.

Durango beat out such impoverished locales as Aspen and Park City, Utah, in the Livability.com rankings.
