Weed abatement to begin Monday on city property

The city of Durango has contracted with Horizon Environmental Services for noxious weed abatement starting Monday and continuing through June 26.

Areas that will be treated for noxious weeds are the infields at Durango Softball Complex at Fort Lewis College, the area adjacent to the Skatepark, Oxbow Preserve, the northern most section of the Animas River Trail, the ditch along Goeglein Gulch hard surface trail and the open space area in Three Springs. Follow-up spot spraying at the treated areas will continue through June.

The herbicides that will be used, depending on noxious weed species are Drive XLR8, 4Lb Amine, Envoy plus, Grazon Next HL and Habitat. Applications are conducted to improve the quality of the right-of-ways, parks and open spaces in the city’s system. The weed control is repeatedly tested and approved by the Environmental Protection Agency. Horizon Environmental Services is licensed by the Colorado Department of Agriculture.
