After its second two-week hiatus from the gridiron, the Bayfield Wolverines returned to the field Friday and scored a homecoming win over Salida, 39-0.

Isaac Ross threw for four touchdown passes, all in the first half, to propel the Wolverines to a 26-0 lead at intermission to the delight of a capacity crowd at Wolverine Country Stadium.

Bayfield got on the board early with Ross’s first TD pass to Caden Wood for 16 yards with 10:05 left in the first quarter. A two-point conversion run by Deegan Barnes gave the Wolverines an 8-0 lead.

Ross next connected with Nic Twedt on a 26 -yard pass to the corner of the end zone in the middle of the first quarter. It was the second TD in as many possessions for the Bayfield offense.

Arguably the most exciting play of the night came late in the opening quarter when James Mars caught a short pass and evaded tackles for 63 yards to score and put BHS up, 20-0.

Salida (0-5) could not mount an attack and lost two turnovers in the game, including an interception by Wood in the second half.

Ross connected on his final touchdown to Barnes for a 1-yard score with just 0:24 left in the half, giving Bayfield a 26-0 lead and all the momentum.

Cael Schaffer competed the scoring in the second half with two touchdown runs in the third and fourth quarter. His final score came on a 50-yard scamper, breaking tackles to make the score 39-0 with 7:18 left.

Bayfield (3-1) next goes to Alamosa (4-1) for a 7p.m. game Friday.
