Weekend work to begin at 160/550 project

New closures will be in effect

With the goal of making the mid-August deadline on the continuous-flow intersection of U.S. Highways 160 and 550, Concrete Works of Colorado is intensifying its work schedule.

Crews will be working during the weekend, the northbound lanes between Santa Rita and the intersection will be closed Monday night and additional closures will take place during the next week.

“To keep pace and accommodate for Durango’s July thunderstorms, weekend work is expected,” Concrete Works of Colorado and the Colorado Department of Transportation said in a news release.

All closures will take place during the nonpeak hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and after 6:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

Travel impacts include:

U.S. 160, west of the intersection, may have median, turn-lane and one-lane closures at any time this weekend.

Northbound lanes from Santa Rita Drive to the U.S. 160/550 intersection will be completely closed starting at 7 p.m. Monday and continuing through the night. The suggested alternative route is to turn right on Santa Rita Drive, left onto East Eighth Avenue and then left on College Drive to Camino del Rio.

Drivers headed both east and west on U.S. Highway 160 from the intersection to Tech Center Drive should expect lane, median and turn-lane closures. Westbound and turn-lane closures may happen anytime. Eastbound closures will occur only at nonpeak times.

Roosa Avenue northbound from U.S. 160 will be closed during daylight hours. No left turns from eastbound 160 will be allowed.

Some limited lane closures on Camino del Rio north of the 160/550 intersection may occur during nonpeak hours.

South of the intersection, median and single-lane closures are likely throughout the week going both directions. Single-lane closures are anticipated during nonpeak hours.
