Some top picks of things to do in Durango this weekend

Clay’s country

County music superstar and television host Clay Walker will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Sky Ute Casino in Ignacio, 14324 Colorado Highway 172. Walker, who has 11 No. 1 hits and four platinum records under his belt, is known for songs like “What’s it to You” and “Live Until I Die.” He’s also a host of the television show “Trophy Hunters” and an advocate of MS research and education. Tickets are $45 VIP, $35 reserved seating and $25 general admission, and can be purchased at www.skyutecasino.com or by calling (888) 842-4180.

A toast to dads

For the kids: stomp rockets, slip n’ slides, a strider course and putt putt golf. For the dads: local music, food vendors and a beer garden hosted by Carver Brewing Co. The Powerhouse Science Center’s Who’s Your Daddy! event, which will take place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday in Buckley Park, celebrates Father’s Day with events aimed at the whole family. Local bands Natural Selection, The Six-Dollar String Band, The Motones, Papa Otis and the Diabolical Sound Platoon will provide the music at the event, which is a fundraiser for the Powerhouse Science Center and a celebration of all the dads and father figures out there. Admission is free, but tickets will be required for individual activities. Visit www.powerhousesciencecenter.org for more information.

Teen magic

At the age of 6, Ohio magic phenom Eli Portola became the youngest champion magician in the United States. He’s been touring the country ever since with a magic show that combines old-school disappearing dove tricks with juggling, floating acts and a showman’s flare. Eli, who is now 18 and fresh off his Off Broadway debut, will bring his bag of tricks to the Animas City Theatre at 7:30 p.m. today. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and are available at www.holdmyticket.com or at the theater, 128 E. College Dr.

Where metal meets mariachi

Take the charro outfits, horn sections and Mexican folk traditions of mariachi music, and combine them with the leather pants, loud guitars and Black Sabbath standards of heavy metal. The result? Metalachi, a five-piece California band that bills itself as “the world’s first and only heavy metal mariachi band.” That’s right, “Crazy Train” with sombreros. The band will perform its over-the-top musical/comedy stage show at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Animas City Theatre, 128 E. College Dr. Tickets are $10. The 21-and-older show is a benefit for Ryan Van Wormer. 799-2281, www.holdmyticket.com.
